My Name Is...

I am the youngest of five children.  My three oldest siblings are boys-all of whom have names that begin with G and are of Gaelic and Celtic origins.  My sister is closest to me in age and her name begins with - you guessed it -  a C (weren't my parents cute). Her name is Charlene which is English and the feminine diminutive of Charles-which happened to be our grandfather's name.  My sister found my name-Carla-in a book she was reading while my mom was pregnant with me.  Carla has origins in Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, English, German and Dutch and is the feminine form of Carlo, Carlos, and Carl.  Carlo is the Greek form of Charles; Carlos is the Portuguese form of Charles; and Carl is the German form of Charles. So in a way... my sister and I share a name! Only 164,980 people in the United States have my first name, so my name is very unique.  Maybe that is why I've never gone by a nickname or shortened version of my name.

Food for Thought:

You do not have to burn books to destroy a culture.
Just get people to stop reading them.
